Must Remember Glasses!
As I approached and have now reached my mid 40’s, there is one major frustration that I have. My eyesight. When I was younger, I had terrific eyesight at both distance and reading. I could read street signs from further away than anyone else, and I could see and read the tiniest writing on anything. Not so much anymore.
So now I have reading glasses which help with reading the small print. I generally don’t need them for most reading and I dislike wearing them. Because of that, I often forget where I’ve left my glasses. But I’m going to have to try to remember more often. When I’m out fishing, and I think I want to try a particular pattern or match a hatch going on, I now cannot see well enough quite often to tie small hooks onto the line especially during the evenings when the sunlight is not as bright. Often times, I’ll waste five or more frustrating minutes trying to tie on a small dry caddis and I’m basically guessing and hoping I can get the end of the line into the hook’s eye.
Perhaps I should pick up a pair of those inexpensive reading glasses and keep them in my vest or bag so they’ll always be handy when I’m fly fishing.
