I Think I’ve Created An Angler

So, after David’s first experience fishing, when he caught a near 2lb. rainbow trout, he’s been at me again to take him fishing.  If I keep taking him to the trout farm, I’m going to go broke!  So this afternoon, I decided to take him out for a few hours to a pond where there was a good chance he might catch a fish, but also a possibility we’d be skunked.  I thought it would be interesting to see how did as time passed, while we went fishless for at least a while.

I was impressed!  First off though, the best part of the pond was already crowded with another family fishing.  So we moved onto another spot, set up David’s rod with a worm, cast it out, and sat down together on the bank.  My little guy is just so awesome, as we talked together about all sorts of things.  We had a few nibbles from some really small fish, but nothing that we could land.  We tried another spot, with the same result.

At one point, I mentioned to him that it looked like the fish just weren’t biting today.  His response,

“Well, Daddy, we just have to wait.”

Ah, yeah… the patient angler is showing through.

But seriously after 4 hours, we had to stop fishing because I had to get back home and get some last minute things done before the day expired.  David was not happy:  “But Daddy, we haven’t caught a fish yet!  I don’t want to leave until we catch a fish!”

I think I’ve created an angler.  And I’m really happy about that, too. He forgave me for taking him home before we caught any fish, as not long ago, he crawled up onto my knee, asking for a big hug, where he fell asleep.

  1. […] Well, David did well! Regular readers may recall that a few weeks ago, I took David there and caught nothing. This was just a couple of days after taking him to the trout farm where he caught his very first fish, a rainbow trout just under two pounds. […]

An impressive share! I have just forwarded this onto a colleague who has been doing a little homework on this. And he actually bought me breakfast because I found it for him… lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thanks for the meal!! But yeah, thanks for spending some time to talk about this issue here on your blog.
