Fourth Fly Swap Alert - The Yager's Discount Fly Shop Swap
February 3, 2001
If you have never participated in a fly swap before, and always wanted to, here is your chance! This is the formal announcement of the fourth About Fly Swap, and this one is being sponsored by the very good folk at Yager's Discount Fly Shop. Tim Yager and I have had a great deal of correspondence over the past few years, and I have had the pleasure of watching his business grow. He provides his customers with great service and Yahoo recently recognized his business with their 5 star 'Top Service' award. Read on for more information about Yager's sponsorship, but first, the guidelines:
1. What type of fly do you want to tie up? Remember, you will by tying up 11 flies of a single pattern. If someone else has chosen the fly you wanted, I will let you know and ask you for a second choice.
2. I am looking for 10 participants and two alternates. The deadline for entering the swap will be February 28th. Please have your flies tied up and in the mail to me by March 10th, 2001.
Although there are 10 participants, I am asking that you send me 11 so that I can send the flies out as soon as I receive them, and have the 11th on hand to photograph so that the fly swap patterns can be posted to the About Flyfishing website
3. Please include US$2.00 with your flies, as mentioned above, to help cover the cost of shipping.
4. Please send your flies in a container that is labelled with your name and address on it and which I can send back to you with the other flies from the swap.
Also remember that some participants may tie flies that are larger than yours!
5. I would request that you send me the pattern for the fly via email in a text or Word file. This will make my job easier when posting the patterns to the site. If you want to include some comments about the fly, such as history, interesting experiences while fishing the fly, or tips on fishing the fly, please do so. It was a real pleasure reading these from many of the participants of the other swaps and I know visitors to the site also appreciate this!
6. To make it easier to identify your fly, please attach a small strip of paper to each fly, through the hook, with the name of the fly. Each fly that you send in should have this strip with the name on it. It makes it easier for the recipients in identifying the fly.
7. If you intend to participate in the swap, please make a commitment to meet the deadline. There is nothing more frustrating for fly swappers who have concientiously tied their flies, sent them in and are looking forward to receiving flies back to be told that one or more of the participants is late and hasn't sent flies yet.
Our previous swaps have been a great success. I know this one will be too! As a bonus, each participant will receive, courtesy of Yager's Discount Fly Shop, 2 Nymph Boxes and one container of Loon's water based Head Cement. What are you waiting for? Email me right away and start tying!
