I know, I know… Christmas is still aways off yet. Here in Canada, it’s the next big holiday, although my American friends still have Thanksgiving to look forward to. Here in Canada, we celebrated Thanksgiving a couple of weeks ago.
I thought I’d start early as I always get emails from spouses of fly fishers asking me for ideas of what they could get as stocking stuffers or gifts for their fly fishing better half. Sometimes, that’s a tough question to answer because some of the most expensive gifts are best left up to the angler to get for themselves if the spouse does not know what kind of fly fishing is done. An angler that fishes primarily saltwater for example, probably wouldn’t care much for a 10′ 4 wt rod, no matter how good it was. On the other hand, I certainly wouldn’t turn down a Hardy Angel 2 rod, no matter what the length or line wt!
Perhaps one of the best ideas for the fly angler and fly tier would be books and/or DVD’s. If they don’t already have it on their shelf, either of these is a good bet to please. I’ll add some titles that I highly recommend for both the advanced and beginner as we get closer to Christmas.
But first, I would like to point out a DVD that I purchased recently and highly recommend! In fact, I did a review of it here. Bugs of the Underworld is a fantastic DVD that will educate and make any fly angler into a better fly angler if they use the knowledge contained in the movie and apply it to how the fly fish.
You won’t go wrong with this, and you can get Bugs of the Underworld here. I recommend you order it soon though, and don’t wait too long as it may go out of stock the closer we get to Christmas!
