Extreme Weather
Throughout the summer months, anglers and others were both noting and complaining about the severe low water levels in streams, rivers and lakes throughout Southern Ontario due to the drought conditions we had.
Well, the past month has seen some extreme weather including a record amount of snowfall. And now we’ve hit our annual “January Thaw” but it’s not been like too many in the past. Temperatures soared from -10C to 13+C for several days, melting all the snow. That caused the Grand River near Grand Valley to flood it’s banks and maintenance crews closed roads.
On top of that, last night we had around 30mm of rain, further adding to the flood conditions.
With some urgent business issues that I’ve needed to attend to, I haven’t much been out to see what the water levels are like right now, but I’m guessing with all this precipitation, things might be approaching more normal levels around my part of the Province.
It’s too bad we didn’t receive more precipitation during the summer months, but hopefully what we’ve had thus far will help to bring the lakes and rivers back up for the coming spring and summer.
