Totally Forgot!

I had wanted to attend the Fly Tying Symposium hosted annually by Winter Hatches,  a club located in Toronto.  The Symposium is this coming weekend and features some excellent speakers and fly tyers. But with dealing with some sort of cold or flu virus that seems to withstand just about everything I have thrown at over the past month, it totally slipped my mind.

There is probably not enough time to register for any of the sessions – but perhaps I can get down there on Sunday and at least check out the exhibitors’ area.

When Reality Bites You In The Ass

I just posted this to the ROFF newsgroup:

“It’s been a very long time since I’ve posted here or read the newsgroup – so
I don’t know if this news has already been posted or not.

For those who live in the Southern Ontario region, and/or have attended or
been involved in the Izaac Walton club, there is very sad news about Bob
Lundy.

I had tried to contact him this evening and spoke with his wife who informed
me that Bob had passed away in November.  Apparently he had been battling
cancer for three years – and over that period of time, even many of his
friends did not know about his battle.  He preferred to live and fly fish
as much as he could.

For years – perhaps a decade, Bob maintained the “Bob’s Gone Fishing”
website, now located at http://www.lundy.ca/gonefishin/index.htm

I may be incorrect, but if not the first, one of the first hatch charts for
the Upper Credit river was posted on the Internet around ten years ago -
and it was on Bob’s first site.

As recently as the end of September, Bob even commented on my blog in regard
to Catch And Release fishing:

For me personally, it was quite a shock to learn of Bob’s passing.  He and I
had shared numerous email correspondence over the past decade, always
talking about getting together to fish the Upper
Credit “sometime.”   “Sometime” never happened.   And I’m feeling quite
bummed out about that.

I apologize if this has already been posted to this newsgroup, but
whatever – for those that knew Bob, even only through email or through his
website may want to know of his passing.”

I’m bummed out.
